Tied to the Tides: Kelongs, Knots & Fisherman
West
Families will discover Singapore’s vanishing kelongs and coastal fishing traditions through a sharing session with a maritime elder.
Participants will explore traditional fishing tools, examine a real fishing net, learn simple knotting techniques, and identify local fish species. Led by community arts collective C.O.O.E.
and a maritime heritage elder, families will learn how kelongs harness tidal movements and support coastal fishing methods.
Through storytelling and hands-on exploration, participants will gain insight into these disappearing maritime traditions and decorate fish shapes to take home.
