Tastes of the Tides: Laksa Siglap & the Flavours of Coastal Kampongs
Discover Laksa Siglap, a rare coastal dish from Kampong Siglap’s fishing villages, through a hands-on sensory workshop.
Led by culinary custodians Emylia and Minh, families will tear fragrant herbs, smell kerisik (toasted coconut), watch fishpaste being pounded, and learn the Malay fishing song “Ikan Kekek.” Using tactile ingredients and archival photographs, participants will explore how traditional recipes act as “living archives,” preserving the rhythms and knowledge of coastal life.
Taste small portions of the thick Laksa Siglap broth and experience how culinary heritage connects communities, fishing practices, and maritime history—bringing Singapore’s vanishing coastal traditions vividly to life.
