TuasOne Waste-to-Energy Plant Visit
Join a guided tour of the TuasOne Waste-to-Energy Plant, one of Singapore's four operational waste-to-energy facilities. This educational visit offers a behind-the-scenes look at the city's waste management system. Participants will observe how trucks sort and unload waste at the reception hall, then see the waste being processed and transferred into the incinerator. The tour also includes an opportunity to speak with crane operators and engineers, learning how the boilers are controlled, regulated, and maintained daily. The visit provides insight into the technology and processes that convert waste into energy, highlighting Singapore's efforts in sustainable waste management.
The tour begins with a safety briefing and an overview of the plant's operations. Visitors will then proceed to the reception hall where they can observe the waste delivery and unloading process. From there, the tour moves to the processing area where waste is sorted and prepared for incineration. Participants will see the massive incinerator and learn about the combustion process that generates heat to produce steam, which drives turbines to generate electricity. The tour also includes a visit to the control room, where engineers monitor and regulate the boilers and other equipment. Visitors can interact with the staff and ask questions about the daily operations and maintenance of the plant.
The tour concludes with a discussion on the environmental benefits of waste-to-energy, including reduction of landfill use and generation of clean energy. This visit is ideal for students, professionals, and anyone curious about how Singapore manages its waste sustainably. The plant is located in the Tuas industrial area, and the meeting point is at TuasLink MRT Station for easy access. Please note that photography may be restricted in certain areas for safety and security reasons. The tour is conducted in English. Participants are advised to arrive at the meeting point at least 10 minutes before the scheduled start time. The tour lasts approximately 1.5 hours, starting at 2.30 pm and ending at 4 pm. Comfortable footwear and attire are recommended as the tour involves walking and standing in an industrial environment.
